Bruce Stec, CASA for Douglas County Board President
How did you get involved with CASA?
I got involved in CASA by accident. I happened to be rolling off a board and the Executive Director referred me to CASA. I was immediately impressed by CASA for Douglas County. I knew what CASA was (my mother was a CASA in Keith County) but was immediately impressed by the numbers and the reach CASA for Douglas County had. I became a Board Member in September 2014.
What has impressed you most about CASA?
I was impressed with how quickly we have been able to grow over the last couple years. We have added significant amounts of volunteers and will continue to do so. Of course it takes passion and funding…I know and have always been impressed with the passion that we have and is visible in every volunteer I have met associated with our agency.
What do you wish other people knew about CASA?
I wish other people could truly understand the reach of CASA and how effective it truly is in helping these children. The program is solid and it is a game changer for kids in the foster system who do get a CASA….I want every one of them that need one to get a CASA that can make this difference for them….we owe all of them that. Kids are always a uniform passion and I would challenge anyone seeking to support children to look at CASA closely and get involved financially or with your time. The return is endless.
Where do you see CASA 5 years from now?
CASA will continue to add volunteers over the next five years. With the right funding and continued passion for these children we will be able to ensure that every child in the foster care systems that needs a CASA gets one!
Any other remarks?
It is truly an honor for me to be the board chair for CASA Douglas County. We can make a difference and I see that every time in interact with staff, attend a board meeting or hear of the impactful events happening all the time through the great work of our volunteers. It is truly humbling.

Bruce graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and has earned both his Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®) certification and his Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification. He was named SHRM Nebraska’s Human Resource Professional of the Year in 2015. He contributes his time and talent as a board member for several local organizations, including the Human Resource Association of the Midlands and CASA for Douglas County.
